Personally I am not a big fan of separate dining rooms they can sometimes be too formal and cut you off from your guests but they do suit some people who prefer the formal way of dining, myself I prefer the open plan kitchen dining room areas where I can interact with my guests and I do not miss out on the conversations and fun, having said that I do not like the dining table to be too close to where I am cooking.
